This exercise was designed to focus on the tongue only. For many players, throwing the fingers into the mix slows things down terribly. 90% of the time, the trouble with speed of articulation is in the rhythmic cleanliness of the fingers and not in the speed of the tongue. Once this exercise is mastered and feels comfortable, then the next stage is an exercise like Langenus #11. This exercise, like jogging on a treadmill at the gym, takes you from slow to fast and then gives you time to rest before constant sixteenths. Enjoy!
- To be used to only work on the tongue.
- No tongue and fingers.
- Pick any note you want.
- I start on G in the staff. Less resistance.
